Bride’s story

I was moving into my new Rocky Mount apartment (right across the street from Thads). A mutual friend of ours came to help me move and brought Thad along. Well that was the start to an awesome friendship and so much more. For a while we saw each other weekly trivia and through mutual friends. We didn’t even have each others number until I recieved a group text to watch Sunday night football. This number I didn’t know responded: “I'll be over right after I watch Once Upon a Time.” I didn’t know who it was, but I didn’t have cable and loved that show! I started texting unknown person, learned it was Thad and invited myself over to watch “Once Upon a Time”.

He must have been okay with it because he invited me over every Sunday after to watch it. When the season was over I was worried I run out of excuses to keep hanging out there….but he quickly got me hooked on another show that I HAD to go over there to watch. I think he knew what he was doing. After what seemed like forever of watching shows and getting to know this dude I was wondering when he was going to ask me out! Well finally it was Valentine's Day and he made me dinner, I thought surely he would ask me out….nope! The next day I was over there as usual watching TV. When I went to leave he walked me to the door and said “Hey, when you come back...can you come back as my girlfriend?” Obviously I said yes, and the rest was history…

Groom’s story

Joy and I first met when I got to know some teachers around my apartment complex in Rocky Mount. A mutual friend of ours told me that another teacher was going to move into the complex and said she was going to help her move. I figured I had nothing better to do so I said I would come along cause other than the principal from the school helping, they never mentioned any other guys (I had to be the muscle hahahahaha). Anywho, that night I had met this quirky elementary music teacher for the first time. She always seemed to be bubbly and I just thought it was awesome she had so many people willing to help her that I figured she had a friendly personality and was a likeable person. Over the next few months we continued hanging out with friends of ours and slowly grew closer to each other. Our shared love of certain TV shows and what later was football watching really made us connect and grow closer over time. Finally we had spent some time together without friends and from there I knew we were going to grow into more than the friends that we were.

So I decided to ask this quirky girl I had met to be my valentines date. I grilled some steaks for us (her favorite outside of sushi) and made a pallet in my living room floor to watch a movie that night. Well the next day and after some different conversations with my cousin, I decided that the time was right to see where our relationship would take us to. Being it was Sunday I knew she would be over at 8 for Once. So we were hanging out in the afternoon and she went back to her place to get dinner. I had no idea what to say at that point so as she was walking out the door I just turned her around and asked if she would come back as my girlfriend. From that point on we had a special relationship. We bought a house after some career changes and Joy moving to Apex for teaching and later I decided it was time for an even bigger step. So we walked up to our gazebo in our neighborhood (which is a Pokestop for anyone that needs one and my excuse to get her out of the house at 10 am on a saturday morning and walk Aries). At the gazebo she started to walk away before I had even had a chance to begin my proposal. So I had to spin her around and ask her to do me the honor and privilege of becoming my quirky and beautiful wife.
